Joseph Watson
Executive Director
Joseph received his Bachelor’s Degree in Leadership as well as his Master’s Degree in Corporate and Organizational Communication from Northeastern University. He began his career in healthcare in the Operating Room at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. During his time there he worked to improve patient throughput, room turnaround time and communication across all the departments involved in surgery. After gaining many years of experience in the OR he moved to the then start-up Best Doctors Inc. to focus on growing an organization and developing his leadership skillset. While at Best Doctors he managed various groups during a period of significant growth and lead development and implementation of scalable workflows and electronic tracking systems to reduce turnaround time for case reviews. In his next leadership endeavor he moved to Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates/Atrius Health where he managed various practices including their Cambridge and Post Office Square locations before moving into Pediatrics. In 2015 he became the Pediatric Administrator/Director responsible for 17 ambulatory clinics and 6 regional urgent care centers. In that position he focused on patient and practice growth, quality measures and margins to support programs including Complex Care and enhanced physician compensation models. He also played a key role supporting the providers and staff of Harvard Vanguard, Dedham Medical and Plymouth Medical through a consolidation under Atrius Health. In 2017 he moved to a senior leadership role as the Executive Director of the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center. During this time he played a significant role in the turnaround of hospital financials and operations as well as growing their community presence in both the ambulatory and inpatient settings. He took a leadership role in implementing a number of programs including One-call for inpatient transfers, a system wide Solutions for Patient Safety program and helped to lead the medical centers early response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020 Joseph joined APP as the Executive Director. He will use his experience in scaling operations, growth, managed care, finance and health system integration to support APP in meeting its goals including growing our community presence, being a key player in the MGB system and building on APP’s reputation for being the premier group for private community practices to seek membership.
